Shows

  • 21st June 2026+

A busy weekend and on the Sunday I went to a show at The Walled Garden in Baumer. I was the only Midas in attendance but there were lots of other interesting cars there. The Midas garnered more interest than at any other show that I have been to, so many people stopped to ask questions and only a handful knew what a Midas was. Another warm but overcast day.

  • 20th June 2026

On Saturday I went to the MG Owners Club show at The Red House in Bourne this was organised as part of the annual Party in the Park organised by Bourne Town Council. Like last year Sue Jefferson also came in her Midas and this year we managed to park next to each other in the shade, although this year whilst it was a warm day it was overcast. Lots of interesting cars there as you can see from the photos.

  • Heckington Auto Club August 2025

This Sunday it was the monthly Heckington Auto Club meeting at The Pavilion in Heckington. My Midas was the only one but had lots of questions and comments.

  • Boston Classic Car Club 2025 show

On Sunday Boston Classic Car Club had their annual show. They capped registration for the show at 540 vehicles as that is all there was room for on the show field. It was a red hot day with lots of great cars and people in attendance. I volunteered to be one of the judges and was selected to check out the 1960’s cars along with another club member.

  • Boston CCC 35th anniversary

Boston Classic Car Club, of which I am a member, celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. Today 22nd June there was a gathering for members only at Kirton Park. Lots of varied cars attended including my Midas with an arty photo above. Many more cars arrived after I took these photos. There was a nice Pimlico Mini in red parked near me.

A panorama photo of the early cars at the venue.

  • Heckington Auto Club June meeting

Sunday 15th June 2025 Heckington Auto Club had their monthly meeting at The Pavilion, Heckington. A lovely sunny windy day with a very light sprinkle of rain the moment I arrived with the top down, luckily it lasted for only a minute. Over 60 cars of all sorts there today. Had an interesting chat with the owner of a 15000 mile from new pristine XR3i and also with the owner of a Triumph Herald based Midge 30’s replica similar to George’s Burlington.

  • MGCC meeting in Bourne

On Saturday 14th June 2025 the MG Car Club had a car event at the Red House in Bourne. There were about 80 cars of all types and ages there. Sue and I were both in our Midas convertibles, I took a chance and went ‘topless’ Sue still had her hardtop in place. The Nissan Micra engined classic Mini’s give me food for thought, but a lot of work and wiring to do.

  • Boston CCC June meeting

Boston Classic Car Club held its usual summer evening event at The Ivy’s, Swineshead on Thursday 12th June 2025. A large number of cars for a nice summer evening.

  • Midas Owners Club 40th Anniversary

In early 1985, having bought my Midas MK2 Bronze spec kit at the Olympia Motor Show in 1984, after discussions with Harold Dermott I started the Midas Owners club. I ran the club for the first few years as a one man band of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Newsletter editor. Luckily there were some early volunteers to help me and the club grew in number both in the UK and overseas. As the club is 40 years old this year the MOC committee decided that it was appropriate to hold a 40th Anniversary event. After much discussion the date of Sunday the 1st June was agreed at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon in Warwickshire. There was also a Mini and Metro day planned for the same day and it was felt that this would be a good event for the anniversary MOC event.

There were 13 cars in attendance on the day and represented the majority of models made over the years as well as one Mini Marcos. The Bangers and Cash Restoring Classics TV program had recently purchased a Midas from Mathewsons Classic Auctions and so they were also invited to attend which they did and filmed the cars and interviewed 3 of the members for a future television program. It was a very busy windy day. It was the first long trip for me in my Midas Gaydon being some 106 miles from home. I am glad to say the Midas ran fine all the way there and back with the hood down both ways. I thought I might have to stop to put it up on the way back when there was a small sprinkle of rain. The only issue was the car ran a bit hot according to the temperature gauge but I am not sure I believe that as it is an after market gauge and the sender may not be the correct one for the gauge.

Here are some photos and links to videos of the day.

I was lucky enough to be presented with a 40th Anniversary cap by Colin on behalf of the club. Thank you to the club members for remembering me in this way.

There are some videos on YouTube about the event and the links below take you to the place in the videos that show the Midas area at the show.
