Midas Owners Club 40th Anniversary

In early 1985, having bought my Midas MK2 Bronze spec kit at the Olympia Motor Show in 1984, after discussions with Harold Dermott I started the Midas Owners club. I ran the club for the first few years as a one man band of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Newsletter editor. Luckily there were some early volunteers to help me and the club grew in number both in the UK and overseas. As the club is 40 years old this year the MOC committee decided that it was appropriate to hold a 40th Anniversary event. After much discussion the date of Sunday the 1st June was agreed at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon in Warwickshire. There was also a Mini and Metro day planned for the same day and it was felt that this would be a good event for the anniversary MOC event.

There were 13 cars in attendance on the day and represented the majority of models made over the years as well as one Mini Marcos. The Bangers and Cash Restoring Classics TV program had recently purchased a Midas from Mathewsons Classic Auctions and so they were also invited to attend which they did and filmed the cars and interviewed 3 of the members for a future television program. It was a very busy windy day. It was the first long trip for me in my Midas Gaydon being some 106 miles from home. I am glad to say the Midas ran fine all the way there and back with the hood down both ways. I thought I might have to stop to put it up on the way back when there was a small sprinkle of rain. The only issue was the car ran a bit hot according to the temperature gauge but I am not sure I believe that as it is an after market gauge and the sender may not be the correct one for the gauge.

Here are some photos and links to videos of the day.

I was lucky enough to be presented with a 40th Anniversary cap by Colin on behalf of the club. Thank you to the club members for remembering me in this way.

There are some videos on YouTube about the event and the links below take you to the place in the videos that show the Midas area at the show.
